The vampire lord's gothic castle in Lesser Faydark. Multi-level dungeon, the canonical Classic mid-game undead zone.

Mistmoore Castle is a gothic fortress dungeon in Lesser Faydark, home to the vampire lord Mayong Mistmoore and his undead court. Entering requires a climb up a long staircase visible from Lesser Faydark; inside, the castle sprawls across multiple levels of throne rooms, crypts, and a notorious pit.

Mistmoore is the canonical 25-45 undead dungeon of Classic EverQuest — visually iconic, loot-rich, and a Paladin's favorite playground.

Geography

Mistmoore is layered vertically from entry staircase to inner sanctum.

The Staircase (entry, levels 25-28)

A long gothic stone staircase from Lesser Faydark. Gargoyles on plinths trigger when approached.

Outer Walls — Gargoyles (levels 28-32)

Stone-skinned guardians on the walls. Physical-resistant; casters contribute well here.

Courtyard (levels 30-35)

Inner plaza with vampire brides and dire bats. First named encounters (Lady Whisperwind and others).

Main Halls / Middle Tier (levels 33-38)

Undead nobility, cursed priests, banshees. Named boneguards with class-specific drops.

Library and Crypts (levels 35-40)

Bone golems, ghouls, named undead lords. Dense camps for tight groups.

Mistmoore's Court (levels 38-42)

Named vampires including Mayong's lieutenants. High-end undead content.

Mayong's Throne (levels 45+, raid-scale)

Mayong Mistmoore himself. Multi-phase fight with vampiric lifedrain mechanics. Drops Mistmoore-specific loot.

The Iconic Pit

A circular deep hall where players have wiped for 25 years. A pull mistake sends mobs down the pit and the recovery is long.

Why Paladins love it

Mistmoore is undead-heavy from top to bottom. Slay Undead and Bane damage matter on nearly every mob. Paladin XP in Mistmoore reliably outpaces any other 30-40 dungeon by 20-30%.

Pull mechanics

  • Gargoyles — stone-skinned, high mitigation. DPS through the damage.
  • Named spawns — rare, often on specific timers. Check for camp lists.
  • Train-prone halls — mistakes cascade down the castle tiers.

Monks FD-split patrols; Paladins + Clerics undead-slay the trash.
