The ice dwarves of Velious. Ally faction gates Thurgadin access and the legendary shawl chain.
Coldain is the ice dwarven faction of Velious, based in Thurgadin. One of the most important Velious factions because reaching Ally standing unlocks the Coldain Shawl chain — a 13-step legendary quest ending in one of the best cloaks in the era.

- +faction: Killing frost giants in Great Divide and Eastern Wastes
- +faction: Completing Coldain quests in Thurgadin
- -faction: Killing Coldain NPCs (even accidentally during Ring War), allying with frost giants
The Coldain Shawl
The 13-step Shawl quest chain is one of the most beloved storylines in Velious. Each step takes the player further into Coldain lore and rewards progressively better versions of the shawl, culminating in a Shawl of the Coldain Hero at step 13 — a legendary back-slot item.
The Ring War
The Ring War is a major Velious event where players choose between fighting for the Coldain or for the Frost Giants. Siding with the Coldain grants faction and access to Thurgadin; siding with the giants grants Kael faction.
