Blacksmithing
The canonical tradeskill. Plate armor, weapons, racial-specific patterns. Forge required.
Blacksmithing is the canonical tradeskill of EverQuest — forge-based metalwork that produces plate armor, weapons, and racial-pattern crafted items. Kaladim's forge is the most popular training site; Freeport and Qeynos both have forges; class-specific racial forges exist in most home cities.
Basics
- Container: forge (found in most cities).
- Ingredient sources: ore (mined or purchased), water flasks, specific patterns (quest-drop or vendor).
- Ceiling: 200 by default; master trainers in Kaladim and Kunark raise to 250+.
Leveling path
- 1-50: basic weapons (rusty short sword, small sewing kit, rusty battle axe). Vendor ingredients.
- 50-100: banded armor, non-magical plate. Pattern drops start being worthwhile.
- 100-150: rare pattern drops, racial crafted armor (e.g. Crushbone Keep orc-pattern breastplate).
- 150-200: named pattern drops, class-specific crafted armor. Kunark enter era.
- 200+: master training. Velious armor, imbued weapons.
Famous recipes
- Fine Steel weapon line — the default mid-game melee weapon suite.
- Crushbone Pattern plates — dropped in Crushbone, assembled to pattern tops-of-mid-game armor for good races.
- Velious crafted (Coldain, Indicolite) — premier endgame crafted armor requiring Velious faction access.
Tips
- Find a forge near your bind point. Running between a distant forge and ingredient merchants is the primary time sink.
- Stock ingredients in bulk. A 10-combine attempt batch is typical.
- Watch for merchant price cycles. Ore prices fluctuate based on player demand.
