Getting Started

Install the Client

How to download, install, and patch the Crushbone EverQuest client on Windows or Mac.

Crushbone uses the Ring of Fire 2 (RoF2) EverQuest client. You do not need a Steam copy or a Daybreak account — the server ships its own curated client build.

What you need

  • ~8 GB of free disk space
  • Windows 10/11, or a Mac running macOS 14+ with CrossOver 26 (GPTK 2.x)
  • A Crushbone forum / account login (see Apply)

Windows

  1. Download crushbone-client-v1.0.zip from the link posted in Discord #downloads.
  2. Unzip it anywhere outside of Program Files — Windows permissions cause patcher trouble inside Program Files.
  3. Run crushbone-launcher.exe once to patch to the latest version.
  4. Launch the game and log in with your forum credentials.

Mac (Apple Silicon, M1/M2/M3/M4)

Crushbone runs natively on Apple Silicon via CrossOver 26 with GPTK 2.x. See the detailed guide in Mac Setup — including the CrossOver bottle recipe, the CPUHighSpeedFix winmm.dll shim, and the ~/Games/everquest_rof2 install path (keep it out of ~/Downloads; macOS TCC blocks the Dock from reaching it).

First login

After character select, you will spawn in your chosen race's starting city. The server intentionally preserves Classic-through-PoP flow — there is no shortcut to the Plane of Knowledge until you've earned the books.

If you get stuck, #help in Discord is staffed by Cogsworth (the server's clockwork Q&A bot) and by human GMs during US evenings.

Troubleshooting

  • Client crashes on right-click of a merchant — swap the bad EQUI_MerchantWnd.xml from the vanilla zip. See Client XML crashes.
  • Game runs at 2× speed — the CPUHighSpeedFix winmm.dll shim fixes this. Already bundled in the v1.0 client zip.
  • Can't find the game window — if you multibox with HotkeyNet, enable the WindowTitle module in eqclientmod.ini (or, soon, cbz.ini).
