Classes
Ranger
Scout-warrior — bow, tracking, nature spells, outdoor kings.
Rangers are the warrior-druid hybrid — leather-armored melee with nature magic, bow mastery, and tracking. Rangers are the only non-Druid non-Bard class that can ride runspeed buffs stably, and the only class with Track outside of Druid (druid track is range-limited; Ranger Track is full-zone).
Role
The Ranger is a scout-DPS hybrid. In groups, the Ranger offers melee DPS, bow DPS, and track-pull. In raids, the Ranger contributes bow DPS and the occasional emergency root from the nature spellbook.
Key abilities
- Track — full-zone tracking, reveals every mob on the map.
- Jolt / Harmony of Nature — aggro dump and single-pull from distance.
- Bow / Archery — at high levels with the right bow (Swiftwind, Earthcaller, Lodestar Heart), Ranger bow DPS rivals melee classes.
- Dual Wield + Kick line — the other Ranger DPS identity.
- Snare + DoT — small kite potential. Not as strong as Druid.
Primary weapon paths
Rangers are the premier dual-wielders outside of Rogue. Ranger Epic 1.0 is the Earthcaller (bow, on-hit damage). Swiftwind and its partner Earthcaller are the Ranger's endgame identity.
Group fit
Rangers fit outdoor groups best — any zone with open pulls and line-of-sight mobs. The Ranger's Track shines in crowded zones (find a specific named without pulling the camp). Indoor groups treat Rangers as melee-DPS-with-bow-emergency.
Solo
Moderate. Rangers solo with snare-DoT, bow-kite, or raw melee. None match the Druid kite curve, but all three work. The Ranger's staying power is better than pure scouts (Rogue, Bard) because of self-heals and self-regen.
Leveling path summary
- 1–15: Qeynos Hills, Surefall, Kelethin (if Wood Elf). Learn bow.
- 15–30: Butcherblock, Commonlands, North Karana. Kite yellows.
- 30–45: Oasis, Rathe Mountains, Ocean of Tears. Track becomes indispensable.
- 45–60: Frontier Mountains, Overthere, Dreadlands. Epic 1.0 questline begins here.
- 60–65: PoP bow groups. Plane of Valor and Plane of Storms bow-camps are Ranger staples.
Play note
The Wood Elf Ranger is the iconic build. Half Elf Ranger is a close second. Human Ranger exists but is rare. Avoid Ranger if you want to solo as much as group — the class benefits more from party buffs than most.
