Pulling
The art of bringing one mob to your camp without bringing the whole room. The defining dungeon skill.
Pulling is the act of bringing a single mob (or a small controlled group) from its spawn point back to your group's camp, without also bringing its neighbors. Good pulling is invisible; bad pulling wipes groups.
Pull classes
Not every class is a good puller. The pull rotation order is roughly:
- Monk — Feign Death is the gold standard. FD splits mob groups cleanly.
- Bard — song-pulls with snare and mez. Can pull most mobs without taking a hit.
- Shadow Knight — fear-pull. Unique to SK. Useful in zones where FD fails.
- Necromancer — FD + DoT pull. Slower than Monk but sustainable.
- Ranger — bow-pull. Careful with range; some mobs see past obstacles.
- Enchanter — mez-pull. Rare but possible; requires resist gear.
What makes a good puller
- Knowing the spawn pattern. Groups of 2+ mobs need splitting. Patrols need timing.
- Using line-of-sight. Pull behind a wall so aggro drops after break.
- Feigning at the right moment. FD drops ASAP after aggro. Don't run back to camp with trains.
- Communicating. Call pulls: "pulling 2, incoming." Warn on misfires.
What makes a bad puller
- Training your own group. Aggro dropping on the puller alone is fine; dropping on the rest of the group is a wipe.
- Pulling more than the group can handle. A Cleric can heal through 2 adds at level 30. Not 4.
- Silent pulls. Groups can't react if they don't know what's coming.
FD pulling in detail
The Monk FD workflow:
- Run to target spawn.
- Engage — auto-attack on nearest mob or land a single attack.
- If only one mob aggros, run it back to camp.
- If multiple mobs aggro, FD. Mobs memory-wipe and return to their spawn.
- Stand up after FD timer resets.
- Re-engage only the one you want.
Key: FD is not instant. There's a ~1-2 second cast. If the mob hits you during cast, FD fails. Feign before taking a solid hit.
Pull tools
- Bard fade songs — break aggro by song cast.
- Rogue Evade — 1-minute cooldown aggro dump.
- SK Terror of Ro — scare-based aggro dump.
- Cleric Divine Aura — emergency DA for fail-pull recovery.
